Model, then explain
I first show students how to approach a problem, then ask them to demonstrate and explain the process back to me so each concept becomes clear.
About Me
I am a mathematics educator and the tutor behind Tzeng Tutoring. For more than 15 years, I have helped middle and high school students understand difficult ideas, strengthen weak areas, and build a more effective way to learn.
My Background
My work combines the structure of classroom teaching with the precision of one-to-one tutoring.
I earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of California, Riverside to develop a strong command of mathematical content.
I completed California teacher preparation and earned a Preliminary Teaching Credential, with prior public-school teaching experience; I now focus on individualized math tutoring for students in Arcadia, San Marino, Pasadena, and online.
What I Believe
My lessons are discussion-based. I listen to how students see a problem, provide the necessary hints, and guide them toward understanding instead of simply telling them what to do.
I first show students how to approach a problem, then ask them to demonstrate and explain the process back to me so each concept becomes clear.
I give carefully chosen hints rather than immediate answers. Students learn more when they make the connection themselves.
After each lesson, I provide additional practice targeted to the student’s specific weaknesses.
Experience
I have tutored many middle and high school students in mathematics and science, including AP Calculus, AP Physics, AP Chemistry, and SAT and ISEE preparation.
Test Preparation
For AP exams, the SAT, and the ISEE, I design preparation plans from each student’s diagnostic results. I guide students through problems at their current level while providing progressive practice that addresses recurring errors.
Parent Communication
Communication with parents is essential. After each lesson, I discuss the student’s current learning status and the next steps we can take to achieve stronger performance.
